In Malawi, the traditional brick-making process uses slop moulding. The soil is dug out from the nearby moulding area and mixed with water.
They are then manually mixed and moulded. Due to the slop moulding process, the bricks contain a high amount of water. Once the bricks have been dried for several weeks, they are stacked, and ready for firing.
The stack is then covered with mud and then fire is lit at the bottom of the pile. The whole process takes a couple of weeks to complete. When complete, the bricks are ready to use.
