Overnight and again this morning, sustained wind speeds out of the south and south east direction at the Hood Canal Bridge were over 40 mph, with wind gusts over 50 mph. The decision to close the bridge to traffic and open the draw span was made out of concern for the safety of the traveling public as well as reduce the strain on the center span of the bridge.
