Dashrath Manjhi, known as the "Mountain Man," was a laborer in Bihar, India, who single-handedly carved a path through a mountain using only a hammer and chisel. This incredible feat took him 22 years and resulted in a 110-meter-long, 9.1-meter-wide, and 7.7-meter-deep path, connecting his village to the outside world. His motivation was fueled by the tragic death of his wife due to a lack of access to medical care, sparking his determination to create a safe and accessible route for his community.
