Photographing Frozen Landscapes at Cerknica Lake in Slovenia – Winter Photography Tips

In this video I travel to the beautiful Cerknica Lake in Slovenia in winter to photography this beautiful karst landscape. Cerknica Lake is one of many seasonal lakes in the karst of Western Slovenia, which is a huge limestone landscape. Cerknica is the biggest of the Slovenian seasonal lakes and when completely full is the largest lake in Slovenia.

This karst region is full of so-called seasonal lakes. They are seasonal because the landscape comprises of limestone and is therefore porous. So in autumn and winter after heavy rain the lakes fill up, but then drain away via sinkholes after long periods without rain.

In winter the lakes often freeze, and Cerknica Lake is especially beautiful when frozen.

In this video I also give you lots of photography tips such as how to use a polarising filter to cut out the glare and boost the contrast of a scene, how to use the viewfinder rather than the live view to ensure you have no lens flare, and how to get rid of when you do. Additionally, I explain how to expose correctly when photographing snow and ice to avoid underexposure.
