As Christians marked Boxing Day, the Catholic Church focused on the feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr, whose unwavering courage set the tone for the day’s celebrations. Drawing inspiration from Stephen’s witness, the main celebrant at Lubaga Cathedral, Fr. John Mary Walugembe, challenged the faithful to stand firm and speak out against corruption and electoral malpractice as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Against the backdrop of a society facing growing moral strain, characterized by intolerance, fading values, and weakened communal bonds, Fr. Walugembe reminded believers of the deeper meaning of baptism. He emphasized that the sacrament is more than a ceremonial act; it is a lifelong pledge to belong to Christ and to live out the Gospel through love, justice, truth, and compassion.
