In previous videos we learned about curvature and the radius of curvature in general. Now we put them to use by seeing the various radii of curvature used in geometric geodesy in general and for the computation of the elevation factor in particular. In the US, the State Plane Coordinate System of 1983 used a single value for radius of curvature used in the elevation-factor's formula. With the upcoming release of the US's modernized reference frames, the State Plane Coordinate System has changed a bit, including which radius of curvature--which is not a constant--is used in the formula. This video compares the old and the new, and provides some insight why the change was made.
