In a shocking revelation, NBS TV has reported that operatives loyal to President Museveni, disguised as polling agents, were caught red-handed attempting to rig the Kawempe North by-election in favor of NRM candidate Faridah Nambi. The incident took a violent turn as journalists from NBS, including Francis Isano, and NTV, led by Abubaker Lubowa, were brutally assaulted and many were arrested. In a desperate move to protect their reporters, NBS was forced to retreat from covering the election, as Museveni’s security operatives targeted the media with increasing hostility.
In a further blow to press freedom, 107.9 Pearl Radio was abruptly suspended from broadcasting after exposing the election rigging scheme. This dramatic turn of events raises alarming questions about the safety of journalists and the integrity of the electoral process in Uganda, casting a dark shadow over future elections in the country.
