Using on Camera Flash Indoors

On camera flash could be a speedlight or simply your built in flash. I'd suggest a speedlight is better because you can fit a diffuser and better still, turn the flash head in any direction and bounce the flash off a wall or ceiling.
Something to watch for when shooting indoors is harsh black shadows which are not attractive. By bouncing flash light will rattle around the room and wrap itself around people and objects for a softer more flattering look.
By using the camera in manual mode and setting a slow (ish) shutter speed about 2 or 3 stops below the available light metering, your shutter will be open just long enough to let some of that ambient light catch up with the flash exposure and soften any shadows still further.
