Michael B. Jordan on Playing Twins in SINNERS | Ryan Coogler on the Weight of Directing History

Sinners is a Southern Gothic horror epic set in 1932 Clarksdale, Mississippi, following twin brothers Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan) as they return home after surviving gangland Chicago and World War I. They plan to open a juke joint and start anew, but instead find themselves entangled in a sinister force threatening their community—and their souls. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Sinners explores themes of Black ancestral trauma, supernatural folklore, blues music, and “temporary freedom”, blending history with genre in a chilling, immersive story.

Ryan Coogler, the visionary filmmaker behind Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther, brings his love for horror and ancestral storytelling to the forefront in Sinners. His work is known for its deep social resonance, cultural authenticity, and cinematic innovation.

Michael B. Jordan, an acclaimed actor and producer, reunites with Coogler for the fifth time. From his breakthrough role in The Wire to unforgettable performances as Oscar Grant, Killmonger, and Adonis Creed, Jordan now takes on his most technically demanding role yet—portraying twin brothers with distinct identities in a single, genre-bending narrative.
