"Get Down Get With It" is the A-Side to Jim Jones and The Righteous Mind's 7" single of the same name. It was released on September 21, 2019, as a Limited edition colored vinyl 7". "Get Down Get With It" is a Slade cover by way of Little Richard, by way of Bobby Marchan. This blistering cover version sounds like a super heavy, distortion soaked, version of Slade backing Little Richard on vocals after he's swallowed a mouthful of razor blades.
"Get Down and Get with It" is a song by American R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Marchan, first released as "Get Down with It" as the B-Side to his 1964 single "Half a Mind". In 1967, American singer Little Richard would record his own version, which was released as a single. In 1971, the British rock band Slade recorded a 7" single with the A-Side entitled "Get Down and Get with It", based on Little Richard's version, which gave the band their first UK chart hit, reaching No. 16 and staying in the charts for fourteen weeks.
Prior to recording the song in the studio, Slade had established "Get Down and Get with It" as a popular number in their live-set, based on Little Richard's version. Originally released on May 21, 1971, with "Get Down And Get With It" credited to Slade & Little Richard to reflect Slade's arrangement of the song. However, as the song started to climb the charts, publishers on behalf of Bobby Marchan soon got involved. The single was hurriedly re-issued as "Get Down with It" and correctly changed the writing credit to Marchan. It was reissued on June 8, 1971, as "Get Down With It" written by Bobby Marchan.
