Philip and Patrick are co-leading team strategy for COSMIC (www.cosmicmedical.ca - formerly UBC SOS eVent). They record and share weekly videos with the COSMIC group to highlight some of our big wins from last week and things we are working on this coming week.
You can also read a summary of this video via the weekly summary document
(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L...) or below:
Our name is collective open-source medical supplies for COVID (COSMIC). We were formerly UBC SOS eVent. We are all volunteers committed to -
Our mission to create abundant access to medical equipment in BC and around the world through open source design solutions.
Our promise to all of our project members is that your time will ultimately be transformed into designs of medical devices and products that anyone and everyone in the world will have access to and can benefit from. We are doing this because we believe this will help in the global fight against COVID.
Highlights from last week (May 3rd - May 11th):
Project Snorkel Mask and Bubble Helmet are collaborating with another open-source design team in Montreal, to compare their solutions and incorporate the best of both designs into a new SUPER-design. Reaction Dynamics, a satellite launch company, has been working on a similar patient snorkel mask design and has sent their mask to use for this side-by-side bench testing. Bubble helmet is getting ready to submit a CIHR grant in collaboration with Dr. Sinha and team in Montreal.
Project bag-valve-mask (BVM) demonstrated a fully functional ApolloBVM Rice University ventilator prototype. They achieved a major milestone by reproducing this design. Developed expertise to scale production, but the clinical situation on ground does not require producing these devices. They will publish a website. To wrap the documentation up, they are summarizing the changes made to the open-source project that they were modifying for our context.
