On the evening of November 28 (local time), the concert “Music Bridges the World, Harmony Without Boundaries”, co-hosted by the China Cultural Center in Luxembourg and the Conservatoire de Luxembourg, was successfully held at the Philharmonie Luxembourg. Artists from China and Europe performed on the same stage, presenting a dialogue of cross-cultural artistry, offering a diverse and moving musical tribute to the 50th anniversary of China–EU diplomatic relations.This performance also served as the grand finale of the ‘A Journey of Chinese Music’ series, attracted an audience of more than 300.
Hua Ning, Ambassador of China to Luxembourg; Laurent Mosar, former President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg; Wang Yuan, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Luxembourg and Wang Xiaohong, Director of the China Cultural Center in Luxembourg attended the event, together with other distinguished guests, to witness this cultural occasion.
The concert opened with a duet, "China in the Lights," performed by Wu Lin and Lü Yaxiang.The warm melody wove together city lights and rural hearths, painting a vivid and touching picture of life for the audience. Following this, harpist Alice Peter and guzheng teacher Liu Yan collaborated on "A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge," using a fusion of Chinese and Western instruments to evoke the tranquil night scene from Tang poetry. Soprano Wu Lin's rendition of "Dear Father" was delicate and melodious, while baritone Peter Edelmann's deeply moving performance of "In That Faraway Place" showcased the charm of cross-cultural works in different vocal styles.
Hungarian pianist Gábor Farkas then took the stage, performing Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 and The Fountains at the Villa d’Este, captivating the audience with his virtuosity and Romantic style. The concert’s grand finale was a specially arranged three-piano and vocal ensemble version of “Jasmine Flower,” performed by pianists Gábor Farkas, Luo Shan, and Jean Muller, and sung by Peter Edelman, Wu Lin, and Lü Yaxiang. The interplay of piano and vocals imbued this classic folk song with a unique charm, blending Eastern and Western musical languages, and brought the audience to a thrilling climax.
After the performance, Many audience members expressed that the concert not only showcased a high level of artistic skill but also deepened the warmth and emotion of cultural communication through music, a language that transcends borders.
The China Cultural Center in Luxembourg will continue to promote cultural exchanges between China and Europe, enriching the artistic experiences of people on both sides in various ways, and building bridges to foster mutual understanding. The successful presentation of the “Music Bridges the World, Harmony Without Boundaries” concert has brought a brilliant close to this year’s cultural exchanges and opened a new chapter for future cooperation.
