Augmented Sixths are one of those concepts in music theory that can feel a bit abstract when we only look at them in a Classical context. But really an Augmented Sixth chord is just another harmony we can use to achieve certain effects.

The Beatles especially use them to bring out more emotional cadences and create interesting harmonic colors.
