Before the Las Vegas Monorail, there was the MGM-Bally's Monorail. This promotional video shows the planning, construction and July 1995 opening of the one-mile monorail. Less than a decade later, the one-mile system was extended to four miles and automated with newer Bombardier MVI trains. The original MGM-Bally's Monorail, seen here, made use of two refurbished Mark IV monorails. They were purchased from Walt Disney World. While much of the information in this video is dated and geared towards promoting VSL, it provides an excellent look at the process of building a straddle-beam, Alweg-type monorail. Monorails can be designed and built quickly, and on budget!
