Traditional medical approaches to pain are important, but only address part of the problem. Beth Darnall, PhD, reviews evidence-based psychological and skills-based approaches that reduce suffering and increase function. She talks about treatments and shares resources to manage pain.
Beth Darnall, PhD, is Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Stanford Pain Relief Innovations Lab. A psychologist-scientist, she leads NIH and PCORI-funded national studies on scalable behavioral analgesic interventions and patient-centered opioid reduction.
