Bechtel team building QCLNG marked another significant construction milestone - installation of a 900-tonne steel dome roof on top of the first liquefied natural gas storage tank at the LNG export plant on Curtis Island, Australia. In a remarkable feat of engineering, mechanical fans placed under the dome gradually elevated the roof inch by inch inside the 38-metre-high tank by increasing air pressure only enough to inflate a party balloon. It took the team three hours to raise the 79-metre diameter roof. At the end of the operation, welders attached the roof to a steel ring embedded in the concrete walls.
