One of the three featured artists in the exhibition “My Mother’s Tongue Ties Me Together,” Merry Sun excavates feelings of disembodiment and displacement through sound and sculpture. With her work “In the Tempest, Through the Eaves,” Sun considers what it means to sever an object from its original source while creating a portal from here to her hometown in China.
In addition to Sun’s works, the exhibition highlights works of art by Noelle Choy and Hùng Lê, who all explore themes of cultural mythmaking, memory, and migration. “My Mother’s Tongue Ties Me Together,” the 2025 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards exhibition, is on view at the Spencer Museum through January 4, 2026.
