Akash Next-Gen Missile System Aces DRDO User Trials, BIG BOOST To India's Air Defence

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the user evaluation trials of the Next Generation Akash (Akash-NG) missile system, marking a significant milestone toward its induction into the Indian armed forces. During these trials, Akash-NG demonstrated its capability by accurately intercepting aerial targets across a wide spectrum of ranges and altitudes, including near-boundary, low-altitude scenarios as well as long-range and high-altitude engagements, underscoring its operational versatility and reliability. The missile is equipped with an indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker and is powered by a solid rocket motor, making it an effective air defence solution against diverse aerial threats. Major subsystems such as the Multi-Function Radar, Command and Control Unit, and Missile Launch Vehicle have been developed by DRDO laboratories in collaboration with Indian industry partners. The trials were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and Indian Air Force representatives. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated all stakeholders, noting that Akash-NG will significantly strengthen the IAF’s air defence capabilities.
