I just got off an hour-long call with adistributor rep, and what he told me about the upcoming Spider-Man Universes Beyond release is… interesting.
Here’s what I’m hearing:
Disney/Lorcana may be unhappy with Marvel’s deal with WotC, which explains the last minute digital IP denial for Magic Arena and MTGO.
Allocation numbers beyond WPN Pre-release allocation are unclear. Possible zero second print waves for Spider-Man.
Avatar got bumped ahead of Lorwyn in release order to guarantee another hyped UB drop incase the Spider Man uncertainties are worse than expected.
WotC might have to rely on “Universes Within”-style reprints for paper play.
While this is rumor and speculation, it fits with what we’ve seen with the irregular announcements (digital rights, early Avatar numbers due, etc) — and it could mean Spider-Man is even more limited than anticipated.
