The Reptile and Amphibian Survey of Timor-Leste has been running since 2009. At the end of 2014 we had conducted ten phases and carried out fieldwork throughout the entire country, including the Oecusse exclave, and both Ataúro and Jaco Islands.
On each phase the two leaders, the experienced field herpetologists Hinrich Kaiser and Mark O'Shea, are accompanied by students from USA, Germany and Timor-Leste.
This video was shot by Zach Brown, a student on Phase VI in early 2012.
The survey has so far recorded around 70 species or reptiles and amphibians and as many as 20-25 of these may be new to science.
The project forms part of the Tropical Research Initiative of Victor Valley College.
