Scriptural Text: 1 John 5:1-3

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”
John Calvin rightly said,
“True obedience flows from love, not fear; those who love God find nothing burdensome in what He requires.”
In essence, this statement is the gist of the text that we have before us on today.
Over the last two weeks, we searched the text of 1 John 5:1-2.
From those two Scriptures we found the first two of three marks of a child of God:
1. Faith in Jesus the Christ (vs.1a)
2. Love for God and His People (vs.1b-2)
In this text, we will discover the last of three marks of the child of God:
True believers are marked by…
3. Obedience to His Commandments (vs.3)
Here the main point of our text:
To be marked as a true child of God, one must exercise faith in the biblical Christ, love like God says love, and obediently follow God’s Word.
