Mohammad Suman Hasan, a 21-year-old garment worker from Shahbazpur village, Jamalpur, became one of the martyrs of the July Uprising 2024. Born to Billal Hossain, a day laborer, and the late Swapna Begum Swara, Suman grew up in poverty but with immense family love and aspirations to support his ailing father.
On 5 August 2024, Suman joined the mass long march in Savar, Dhaka, raising slogans for justice and democratic reform. Amidst bullets and tear gas, he was fatally shot, leaving behind a grieving family and a nation inspired by his courage.
This documentary takes viewers into Suman’s home village, where his father, grandmother, and aunt share intimate memories of his childhood, dreams, and the sacrifices that defined his short but impactful life. Their voices preserve the human stories behind the uprising, stories of resilience, dedication, and courage that history must remember.
Produced by the July Council – An Oral History Archive, this film ensures that future generations know not only how Suman Hasan died, but who he was, what he believed in, and why he rose.
