Cherry blossom season in Fukuoka feels softer and calmer to me, as if the whole city slows down for spring. In this vlog, we spend an entire day chasing sakura: from peaceful morning parks to lantern-lit festival food at night. It’s one of those days that reminded us why we fell in love with Japan, and how far we’ve come since first dreaming of this trip.

We started our day with a Japanese-style breakfast at Matsuya before heading to Minami Park, a quiet hilltop full of cherry blossoms. On the way in, we met Seven: the cutest Shiba Inu “shopkeeper” who immediately convinced us to buy ice cream. The climb reminded us of our questionable fitness level, but the blooming sakura made it worth it. We also tried a very questionable Fanta flavor (never again) and peach KitKats, which absolutely redeemed the taste test.

After a break at our Airbnb, we continued our double hanami day at Nishi Park. Lanterns glowing in the trees, food stalls lining the paths, and surprisingly few crowds created the perfect evening. We tried chicken steak, Yakitori, and Hashimaki: a rolled-up Okonomiyaki! I saw it for the first time. We visited the shrine, checked our fortune (decent luck!), and enjoyed the sakura illuminated by spotlights before wandering home through the peaceful streets.

On the way back, we passed Maizuru Park again and caught another part of the light show. Even crowded, it didn’t compare to Tokyo levels of chaos. Days like this made all the years of saving, planning, postponing, and waiting for Japan’s borders to reopen feel completely worth it.
