This tour de force performance of Cole Porter’s “What Is This Thing Called Love?” highlights some features of this incarnation of Vital Information. One is the extreme virtuosity of our keyboard player Manuel Valera, an absolute monster player!
You can also hear tremendous growth in the trio’s power of communication and abstraction. All three of us: Janek Gwizdala on bass, Manuel on keyboards and myself on drums, keep the form of the tune throughout, but stretch and obscure the composition as we improvise, hallmarks of adventure and growth as evolving jazz musicians.
There is a video of this piece from our 2023 TIME FLIES tour that is quite dynamic but this 2024 interpretation takes us to new heights. Enjoy!
