Is it just me? Or does it seem like more people are obsessed with themselves? Giving society the old eyeball test, I see more people demanding, not asking for things that they are not entitled to. People out here acting as if they are gods. Out here talking bout some, “worship me, praise me”. And this mentality is rampant, Knocking on the door of every person’s heart as if it were a Jehova’s witness. This self-centeredness presents itself in various ways; From the way people treat employees terribly for simply doing their jobs to how corporations feel entitled to the consumer's money to Celebrities treating their fans as if they are nothing to them. And the internet is no exception to this pride, On the contrary; It plays a major catalyst. With the rise of Streamers on Twitch and Kick, the rise of YouTubers, TikToker, IG models, podcasters, and various other internet personalities; Many feign the spotlight, monetary gain, and validation; when in reality, it’s all meaningless. This ideology permeates from being solely on the internet and into daily life, leading to the world of selfish people we have today. And the answer to that our society has glorified the Ego. Ego is why so many people find it so hard to agree with those on “the other side”. It’s why so many people break out into fights over seemingly nothing. It ends marriages, breaks up friend groups, and divides entire communities. If this keeps up, we will have nothing but a generation of Self-centered egomaniacs, who don’t know how to lower themselves to resolve conflict because they will be too busy bragging about how they can crank 90s or have the latest jays or sumthin. Before we enter an era I would like to call The Age of Egotism.
