In the first two videos of this series, I described the methods of improvising over the Miles Davis tune “So What”, and a comment came back on it saying “too jazzy”. I wasn’t sure really what that meant, but it prompted me to make this, the third instalment of the series.
In this video, I describe the ways and means of playing on someone’s record, where a sparse and sensitive edge is needed to play for the top line (vocals or tune). Less really is more here, and I use a backing track to illustrate this.
