Several welds were made on small steel plates and put in glycerin to show how much hydrogen comes out from each process.
LEGEND FOR BEAKER LABELS:
Metal Core
SAW
GTAW H5 = 95% argon - 5% hydrogen shielding gas
GTAW H2 = 98% argon - 2% hydrogen shielding gas (0-4ml/100 grams)
6010 (30ml/100 grams)
7018 Oven = Electrode from the holding oven
7018 Jeep = Electrodes stored in student's jeep for undefined period of time
7018 Wet = Electrode dipped in quench tank prior to welding
Snack = Lab stock FCAW that was sealed in a foil wrapper and boxed
Hort = Lab stock FCAW that had been stored in the greenhouse for 2-3 months
Self = Hobart self shield FCAW, stored unopened in the blue room cages
Lab = Lab stock FCAW that was already opened and had been sitting out
Coolant = GMAW weld on sand blasted plate saturated with cutting fluid
Paint = GMAW weld on sand blasted base plate with a coat of spray paint
Spatter = GMAW weld on sand blasted cleaned base plate and coated with anti-spatter spray
Sand = GMAW weld on sand blast cleaned base plate
