The Scottish soprano, Isobel Buchanan, made her professional operatic debut at the Sydney Opera House - as Pamina in Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE - in 1976. Two years later, she made her British debut in the same role. Her career saw her singing at the Vienna Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera and in Munich, Paris, Cologne, Hamburg and Monte Carlo. She was an audience favourite with Opera Australia where her roles included Zerlina in both DON GIOVANNI and FRA DIAVOLO, the Contessa, Donna Elvira, Valencienne, Micaela, Amelia in SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Gilda, Norina, Ellen in LAKMÉ and Helena in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT's DREAM. This recording is from her actual debut - the dialogue and duet between Papageno (Ronald Maconaghie) and Pamina in Act One of Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE. The conductor is the excellent and versatile William Reid.
