Here are my notes from this testing:
Chrome Silicone wires claim to fame is how many millions of extra cycles you get over Stainless Steel or Music Wire like Colt uses, BUT, that’s only at very high operating temperatures much greater than your gun will ever see, like valves springs in hi temp race engines. Sprinco even states that on their web site.
So at much lower operating temperatures like found in AR-15s chrome silicone has NO actual advantage, and it can seriously corrode. That begs the question, why would anyone use these springs? Answer, all HYPE!
What you have seen is how I test ejector springs “ON” camera. How others are testing “OFF” Camera I have no idea.
For the majority of “home builders”, counting the # of coils (should be 27 coils) is the simplest way to test your spring.
If your not already doing so, you need to subscribe to “Peter Egger” on youtube. He builds some fantastic Franken Guns. He uses the best assembly techniques and builds guns perfectly. It was his 2 Wilson Combat BCGs from his latest builds that both had short ejector springs of just 24 coils that inspired me to do this latest test. And of course he was having ejection problems. Sometimes the brass would come dribbling out and land on his shooting table.
