Welcome to "One Band * One Artist", a 10-minute YouTube series dedicated to shining a light on obscure bands. Each episode dives into the story of a single artist, blending commentary with a curated selection of their songs. Perfect for music lovers craving fresh discoveries beyond the mainstream.
Heavy Metal Kids, formed in London in 1972, emerged from the fusion of Heaven and Biggles, blending glam rock, hard rock, and proto-punk with a rebellious, streetwise edge. Led by charismatic frontman Gary Holton, alongside guitarist Mickey Waller, bassist Ronnie Thomas, drummer Keith Boyce, and later keyboardist Danny Peyronel, the band gained a cult following through their high-energy live shows and albums like Heavy Metal Kids (1974), Anvil Chorus (1975), and Kitsch (1977). Signed to Atlantic Records and later RAK, they toured relentlessly, supporting acts like Alice Cooper, but internal struggles and Holton’s 1985 death from a drug overdose halted their initial run. Reformed in 2002 with Hit the Right Button (2003), the band, with shifting lineups, continues to perform and record, maintaining their legacy as influential precursors to punk and new wave of British heavy metal, celebrated for their raw, swashbuckling rock’n’roll spirit.
