Soybeans, a cornerstone of global agriculture, are also crucial in international trade as the United States and Brazil collectively dominate over two-thirds of production, while China -- commanding approximately 60% of global imports -- wields significant market power.
Lately it’s been diversifying its sources away from the United States to countries like Brazil and Argentina, thereby reshaping trade flows and enhancing food security. Even though the U.S. announced that a new trade agreement had been reached in late October, and China has agreed to restart substantial purchases of American soybeans after months of near-zero imports, how many soybeans China's going to import from the US still remain in limbo. Zhang Shixuan traveled to 2 soybean farms in Brazil and finds out more.
