"Into the Sun" - The Airmen of Note Featuring Guest Trumpeter, Sean Jones

INTO THE SUN | Brought to you by The United States Air Force Band’s Airmen of Note, and featuring internationally renowned trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and educator Sean Jones, we invite you to enjoy the second installment of the all-virtual 2021 Jazz Heritage Series, featuring Jones' own high-octane chart, "Into the Sun."

In 2014, Chicago Tribune music critic Howard Reich described Sean Jones as “a trumpeter on the ascent.” Almost 7 years later, we can’t think of a more fitting way to describe such a musical, educational, and innovative powerhouse as Mr. Jones as he joins the Airmen of Note for a high-flying installment of this year’s all-virtual Jazz Heritage Series!

Highly respected in his field, Jones has consistently held myriad prestigious stations in the music world. He currently chairs the Jazz Department at the Peabody Conservatory as well as serving as President of the Jazz Education Network.

A preeminent musical talent, Mr. Jones’ virtuosity has been on full display alongside such jazz greats as Illinois Jacquet, Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, and Marcus Miller. He was hand-selected by Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter to play on their Tribute to Miles tour in 2011. Well-versed in multiple musical genres, Jones has given masterful performances with the Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown Symphony Orchestras as well as Soulful Symphony in Baltimore and in a chamber group at the Salt Bay Chamber Festival. From 2004 to 2009, Sean Jones was lead trumpeter with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, and he has toured with SFJAZZ for many years.
