“MOTHER OF ALL BETRAYALS! MURIC SLAMS Christian Association Of Nigeria Over Trump's Plan For Nigeria

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is laying accusations and blaming the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the wake of United States President Donald Trump’s decision to place Nigeria back on the list of “Countries of Particular Concern” and threatens to carry out military action should the killing of Christians continue in Nigeria.
About a month before Trump's declaration, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh issued a statement in October 2025 lamenting that many Christian communities, particularly in the North and central states like Plateau and Benue, continue to suffer severe attacks, loss of life, and destruction of property by armed groups such as Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani herders.
Throughout the years, the association has persistently urged the Nigerian government and security agencies to adopt decisive, transparent, and just measures to put an end to the horrific killings and safeguard vulnerable communities. Regrettably, these urgent cries for help have been largely dismissed by the Nigerian government. The killings continued to grow, and Nigerian Christians cry for help, eventually catching international attention, with prominent U.S. political figures like President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz spotlighting what they describe as a "Christian genocide". In response to this alarming situation, Trump designated Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern" and threatened military intervention, along with the cessation of aid, if the Nigerian government failed to act immediately to halt the violence. This calls for an urgent reevaluation of priorities and responsibilities on the part of the Nigerian authorities to protect their citizens.
Instead of welcoming the idea of helping them combat the killings in the north, MURIC, as well as The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), are claiming CAN has betrayed not only them but also President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over what the Islamic rights groups describe as the President’s “generous consideration for Christians” in federal appointments.
