We had the privilege of joining Central Athletics Group as they embarked on a speed-work session at the proposed Kerenga Airstrip site. They chose to train on this ground because of the favorable terrain and the relatively level surface, which is conducive to interval training and speedwork sessions outside of the running track.
In this session, the athletes improve their endurance and finish as they prepare for the intense road race season. Coach Peter Kirui designed the program.
The camp features notable athletes Mercy Cherono, who is a 4 time Olympic Champion, preparing to make a comeback in the road race scene after a maternity break. Isaia Lasoi is also one of the camp's star athletes who did exceptionally well by finishing in 3rd position 3 times in international half-marathons he ran in 2024. This year will surely be a promising one for the Central Athletics Camp thanks to Coach Peter Kibet Kirui and the dedicated athletes under his tutelage.
