In 1885, the Farwell brothers from Chicago founded the XIT Ranch of Texas. In return for constructing the Texas State Capitol in Austin, the Farwell's received three-million acres of land in the Texas Panhandle. The original ranch lands boasted 6,000 miles of fence and ran 150,000 head of cattle at it's peak which included a division in Montana with another two-million acres - a feat of human strength that led us to our current endeavor owning and operating ranches in the Panhandle of Texas on original XIT rangelands and Southern Colorado. We honor Western traditions by raising quality cattle and breeding American Quarter Horses.
