Sometime during the 5th century BCE, near the Roman Britain town of Silchester that was originally the centre of the Iron Age kingdom of the Atrebates tribe from the late 1st century BCE, someone lost a gold ring. The gold ring lay buried in the ground until it was found by a farmer ploughing his field in 1785. Like Deagol who saw a glint in the seabed, the farmer perhaps caught a glittering glimpse in his fields that made him stop in his tracks.
