USA: HOLLYWOOD: ROCK STAR DAVID BOWIE RECEIVES HIS OWN STAR

The starman received his own star on Wednesday as February the 12th became David Bowie Day in Hollywood.
The rock legend wowed fans outside Hollywood's Galaxy Theatre as he accepted the plaque nestled in amongst Tinsel Town's finest.
The stars were out in daylight on Wednesday as rock legend and actor David Bowie stepped to the stage to be honoured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fans turned out in scores to see the orange-haired musician receive his star.
His hair may have changed colour - but there were no red shoes - and no dancing to the blues either - today (Wednesday) is David Bowie Day.

Bowie's star is here at the Hollywood Galaxy Theatre - making him the 2-thousandth and 83rd person to receive the award.
The chameleon rocker and film star, whose career spans \"Ziggy Stardust\" to silver screen seemed almost shy as he stepped up to speak to the screaming fans.

They weren't just cheering for their pop idol, though - Bowie's supermodel wife, Iman, also received her fair share of applause.
Neither marriage nor age - Bowie just turned fifty - have slowed the megastar down.
He just released his new album, \"Earthling,\" on Tuesday and is still playing to sold out halls, most recently New York's Madison Square Gardens.
He's also appeared in several films, played the Elephant Man on Broadway not to mention sporting hair every colour of the rainbow.

Bowie began as a cult phenomenon in England in the 1960s, and later emerged as a leading performer of the '70s and '80s.
During Bowie's \"space years\" in the early 1970s, he recorded the albums \"Space Oddity\" and \"Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.\"
He also starred in the 1976 film about an alienated alien, \"The Man Who Fell to Earth.\"
He may not be an alien - but Bowie is now firmly in place amongst the stars.
