The Flood Gates are Open - Now What? : Upscaling Critical AI Literacy

In this presentation for HLA 2025, Kelleen Maluski, an Engagement Librarian at Sage Publishing discusses issues around quickly upscaling work around AI in library sciences. Abstract: While we in the information professions know there is much that needs to be discussed, understood, and adapted with AI technologies and their impact on our environment, society, and labor force the truth is that those conversations are now having to happen while AI is actively being utilized by learners and scholars alike. With the flood gates open, librarians are seeing a rapid demand to teach, speak to, and build AI literacy materials while simultaneously working to fully educate ourselves and ethically assist our users. In this session we will explore the unique challenges of the current AI landscape within academic libraries and how you can utilize materials from Sage Learning Resources to help upscale your work to build AI literacy modules quickly but with expert and thoughtful contextual information.
