Hiking Iceland’s Most Famous Trek: Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls | 4-Day Backpacking Adventure

In July 2024, I set out on a 4-day, 50-mile self-guided trek through the Icelandic Highlands, combining the iconic Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails. From steaming geothermal valleys and black sand deserts to glacial river crossings and lush birch forests, this hike pushed me physically and mentally—and delivered some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes I’ve ever seen.

• Route: Landmannalaugar to Skógafoss

• Dates: July 6–10, 2024
• Weather: Mostly clear, strong winds, some snow and glacial crossings
