Noctilucent (night shining) clouds are very high clouds made up of ice and dust particles and are only visible when lit up by the sun when it is below the horizon, when conditions are right.
You can only see them from mid-May to mid-August in the northern hemisphere and between mid-November and mid-February in the southern hemisphere.
