Clarence the Jeep took an exciting and sometimes, hair-raising trip from Canon City to Cripple Creek, Colorado along the famed "Shelf Road."
This is a great drive if you're brave and trust the person behind the wheel. If you don't like steep extreme drop-offs, don't take the road.
This narrow mountain road is 13.3 miles long, running south-north between Cañon City and Cripple Creek Colorado.
The road is mostly unpaved and pretty steep. It climbs from 6,240ft above sea level, to 9,393ft above the sea level. That is an elevation gain of over 3100 feet. The average gradient is 3,80%.
It is part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway.
