Notre Dame de Paris The Return Inside - Chapels of the Choir

Bonjour all! Join me for a walk through the newly reopened Notre-Dame and a closer look at the first five chapels of the choir.

Dating back to 1250, these chapels were built and funded by wealthy families and corporations, and a few traces of their patronage still remain today.

Unlike the nave, the choir chapels remain in their full vibrant color, as envisioned by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc during the mid-19th century. Blending Medieval details with the rich hues of the Romantic period, they are a stunning display of restored technicolor beauty.

While the nave’s chapels have undergone significant changes—including new names and themes during the latest restoration—the choir chapels have largely remained the same. However, many movable decorative elements have been removed, and even a few cenotaphs have disappeared.
