当代中国最大的谎言叙事之一，就是后毛泽东时代中共从中国经济的发展中获得了执政合法性。中国的经济发展是通过压榨人民所取得，根本不可能因此获得合法性；其所依据的“绩效型权威”是一个错误的理论；“中国人民”没有代表任何一个中国人与中共达成这种合意；中共客观上促进经济发展的决策都是被迫作出的，从逻辑上也不符合“交易”、“收买”所需要的主动付出对价的要求。这个谎言有巨大的危害。

One of the biggest lies in contemporary China is the claim that, in the post-Mao era, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) gained its ruling legitimacy from economic development. China’s economic growth was achieved by exploiting its people, so it could never confer legitimacy. The so-called “performance-based authority” is a flawed theory. “The Chinese people” never represented any individual Chinese citizen in arriving at such an agreement with the CCP. The CCP’s decisions that objectively promoted economic development were made under coercion, and thus, from a logical standpoint, they do not satisfy the requirement of proactively offering consideration that is necessary for any genuine “transaction” or “buy-off.” This lie is extremely harmful.
