This is The 10/13/1951 SMU at Notre Dame game. It is a Black and White Film with Radio Audio. Both The Film and Radio originated from Humble Oil. Many people think the use of the shotgun or spread formation started in the 90's and 2000's with the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Rusty Russell took over The helm at SMU in 1950 and he fathered the spread formation in football. After all, he had coached a High School team in 1944 that featured Bobby Layne and Doak Walker. He needed something new to Utilize their talents. In 1951 he happened upon a freak athlete in 6' 6" tall QB Fred Benners. Russell didn't have much sucess as a head coach in college but his formations and the utilization in todays football will live seemingly, forever. A substantial underdog against Notre Dame in South Bend he decided to let it all hangout. Benners, from The Spread formation passed 23 of their first 25 plays. As talented as Notre Dame always was under Frank Leahy, nobody had a clue how to stop this in 1951 if it was clicking. I claim no rights to the film or the audio but I did author this combination.
