In studio portrait photography we have many options for creative images.
Dragging the shutter by using flash with a slow shutter speed is one of those options.
Many photographers believe that using rear curtain synchronisation is necessary for shutter drag shots.
I don't agree with this.
The default camera setting of front curtain synch is far more beneficial in almost all shutter drag situations.
One big advantage is that I can control the timing of the flash to control the model's pose and expression which I can't effectively do when using rear curtain synch.
