This is a couple car review of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid versus the new Toyota Venza Hybrid.The Toyota Venza and the RAV4 Hybrid ride on the same platform, but the Venza differs from the RAV4 as it uses a lithium-ion battery pack and is a little bit longer. They both come with a 2.5L 4-cylinder gas engine with Toyota’s Hybrid system; producing 219 net hp and 163 lb-ft of torque.The RAV 4 Hybrid comes in 4 trims and the Venza has 3 trims. The best comparison is really between the RAV4 Hybrid Limited top trim and the Venza XLE which is the middle trim. There is just over a $1,000 difference between these two trims. When it comes to exterior styling, they are both very different. The RAV4 exterior is rugged and sporty looking, the Venza has cleaner lines and offers a more sophisticated vibe especially with the wrap around taillight. The RAV4 comes with 18” wheels, while the Venza has 19” wheels and both vehicles offer a power rear door with a kick sensor. The Venza is based on the Toyota Harrier; which is sold in other parts of the world. Fun Fact: The first Lexus RX was also based on the Harrier. The Venza is slightly longer, they are the same width but the RAV4 offers a little bit more height. They both come with a heated steering wheel at 9 & 3, heated and ventilated front Softex seats, driver seat memory, power liftgate, backup camera, wireless charging, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert along with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
They do differ on screen size, the RAV4 Hybrid comes with an 8” touchscreen, the Venza offers a 12.3” touchscreen. The Venza can be a little bit frustrating to use as it doesn’t have any physical buttons. To change the radio or adjust the heat you have to use the touchscreen. With the RAV4 Hybrid you can quickly adjust a knob.However, the base model Venza offers an 8” screen just like the RAV4 with a physical volume and tuning knob. If you choose this trim, you don’t get driver seat memory, ventilated front seats, Softex seats or a heated steering wheel. Surprisingly, one feature the Venza does not offer is heated rear seats, which the RAV4 has on the Limited trim. The Venza also offers something unique and it really is beautiful, a fixed panoramic glass roof with frost control. This is only available on the top model and oddly enough; a sunroof is not available at all on the lower trims.
