This video features the London band PRIDE, recorded for Peter Powell's Oxford Road Show, a program that spotlighted emerging talent. The band performed a series of songs in the BBC studios for Powell's Radio One show. Notably, PRIDE's lineup included a young Ms. Adu (Sade) as a backing singer.
This performance holds a significant place in music history. Following PRIDE's inability to secure a record deal, their manager disbanded the group and formed a new band around the core trio of Paul Denman, Stuart Mathewman, and Paul Cook from Hull, with Ms. Adu now as the lead singer. Taking her name, SADE, for the band itself, they went on to become one of the biggest acts of the 1980's. In a fitting full-circle moment, Sade returned to the Oxford Road Show in 1984 to debut their classic hit, "Your Love Is King."
