Sunlight Nearly Killed Our Mars Base (Mirror Drift → Air Leak)

Sunlight was supposed to save our Mars base.
With the battery dropping into the red, we built a “free heat” system—mirror panels aimed at an absorber plate to warm our thermal loop without burning watts. It worked… until dusk, when one tiny delay in the gimbal let the bright spot drift where it never should’ve gone.
A moving patch of concentrated light quietly overheated a seam. No flames. No dramatic explosion. Just a faint tick in the wall… a sharp adhesive smell… and then the pressure trend tilted downward.
In this episode, we race the clock through a long Martian night: hunting the leak with thermal scans and gel tests, clamping and sealing two failing joints, shrinking the habitat with an isolation curtain, and trying not to freeze after shutting the mirrors down. By dawn, the line finally flattens—but the logs reveal two drift events we haven’t inspected yet.
Mars doesn’t threaten loudly. It just schedules the next test.
