The Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts, in collaboration with the Augustine Strings, is proud to present Meng Su in a video premiere of an exciting new work for guitar by the Vietnamese-American composer Viet Cuong called "Where the Echo Sings", filmed in San Francisco.

About the composer:

Described as “alluring” and “stirring” by The New York Times, the “arresting” (Gramophone), “irresistible” (San Francisco Chronicle), and “exhilarating” (Chicago Tribune) music of Vietnamese-American composer Viet Cuong (b. 1990) has been commissioned and performed on six continents by musicians and ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Eighth Blackbird, Kronos Quartet, Sandbox Percussion, Alarm Will Sound, Sō Percussion, PRISM Quartet, and Dallas Winds, among many others.

About the guitarist:

Multifaceted guitarist Meng Su captivates audiences worldwide with stunning virtuosity and refined artistry, praised by New York Concert Review for her “seemingly effortless and stunningly polished” performances and by Classical Guitar Magazine for achieving “the status of a seasoned artist.” Alongside her active solo career, she tours internationally as a chamber musician with the Beijing Guitar Duo and as a soloist with orchestras, performing in over 30 countries in venues such as the Concertgebouw, Palau de Música, Tchaikovsky Hall, and Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts. Her acclaimed recordings include the Latin Grammy–nominated Maracaípe, the widely celebrated Bach to Tan Dun, the trio album China West, and her 2016 solo debut Meng, hailed as “awe-inspiring.” Born in Qingdao and trained from age 5 under Prof. Chen Zhi, she went on to win major international competitions, culminating in the Parkening International Guitar Competition, and later earned multiple advanced degrees with Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory. Meng Su currently teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and serves as Artist-in-Residence for the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society.
