When most of the city sleeps, the road crews move in. This short film looks at how a resurfacing operation unfolds in Johannesburg — the lights, the noise, the choreography of men and machines keeping one of Africa’s busiest urban networks alive.
I’ve spent years photographing and filming engineering and infrastructure across southern Africa, and this project is a quiet look at the skill and precision behind something we all take for granted: the road beneath our wheels.
Shot entirely on location, using multiple cameras and natural sound, this film
captures the textures of asphalt, diesel, and night air — the rhythm of work that makes the city move.
